The 2014 Tony Awards Show is scheduled for Sunday, June 8th at 8 PM on CBS.  Check out this year’s nominees and take a look at our predictions for who will take home the Tony Awards in some of the biggest categories of the night.

Best Play: All The Way

Bryan Cranston’s starred as President Lyndon B. Johnson in his Broadway debut.  All The Way was one of the most anticipated shows of the year and did not disappoint.  The Breaking Bad star also was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play.  Its our pick to take home the most coveted of the Tony Awards this year thanks in large part to the incredible performance of Mr. Cranston.

Best Musical: A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder

A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder opened at the Walker Kerr Theatre on Broadway in late 2013. Featuring music and lyrics from Steven Lutvak, the novel turned Broadway musical has captivated audiences for months.   It tells the story of Monty Navarro who discovers that he must eliminate eight others who stand in the way of an inheritance.A Gentlemen’s Guide was one of the most hilarious musicals of the year and our pick to take home the Tony Award in this category.

Best Book of a Musical: Aladdin

Disney’s classic tale, Aladdin, has only recently been adapted to the stage.  It premiered at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle before making its way to Broadway in 2013.  The 1992 Disney animated film, was the highest-grossing movie of the year and captured an Academy Award for Best Original Score.  We expect Aladdin to bring home the hardware in this category and possibly several others thanks in part to the production’s five nominations at 2014 Tony Awards.

Best Revival of a Play: A Raisin in the Sun

Our selection for the Best Revival of a Play at this year’s Tony Awards is A Raisin in the Sun.  This classic Broadway play  tells the tale of a three generation family struggling to make ends meet in the south side of Chicago. The role of Walter Lee Younger, made famous by Sidney Poiter in 1960 is now played by Hollywood A-lister Denzel Washington.  The show has had several hiatuses over the past few decades but it has triumphantly returned to become one of the best plays of the year.

Best Revival of a Musical:  Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Neil Patrick Harris is one of the most popular actors today thanks in large part to his hilarious role on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother.  NPH plays a German transgender punk rock singer in Hedwig and the Angry Inchwhich originally debuted on Broadwy in 1998.  We expect the popularity and incredible performance of Neil Patrick Harris to help guide him to a win for Best Revival of a Musical at this year’s Tony’s.
