U2 Releases Rescheduled Tour Dates

Bono and company have finally set dates for their rescheduled North American 360 Tour Dates. The dates, which previously ran through June and July of 2010, are now scheduled for May through July of 2011. If you’ve already got tickets then you don’t need to do anything, your ticket for the original show will still be valid for the corresponding new show.

Lauryn Hill Tour in 2010?

I completely wore out my copy of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill so I’m more than a little excited about the possibility of a new album from the former Fugees star this year and the implications it would have with regards to her touring. Hill gave an interview with NPR on the 28th and hinted that she may be back in the studio which has caused all sorts of sources to claim the album release is near. Lauryn is slated to appear at the Rock the Bells concerts in August and it would be a great opportunity for her to debut some new material or announce and promote an upcoming album or tour. 2010 Summer Tour Updates

Bob Dylan, Primus, Slash, Maroon 5, and Vampire Weekend all tack dates onto their tour schedules.

Maroon 5
Adding fourteen dates between October 6th and October 29th. See full list here

Bob Dylan
Fifteen concerts scheduled for August 4th through September 4th. Chances are Dylan will add on dates later in the tour just like he did last year. See Bob’s full schedule here

Vampire Weekend
Also tacking on fourteen additional dates, Vampire Weekend’s US tour dates start up in late August and run through October 13th. International fans can catch them in various countries now through August. Get all the dates here

Slash
Out promoting his new solo album, the Guns N’ Roses guitarist is playing dates across the US this fall. Tickets have already started going on sale for some of the earlier dates, check out the schedule here

Primus
Claypool, LaLonde, and Lane are back on the road together for their Oddity Faire tour in 2010. The current sixteen tour dates are set for mid-September through early October but it is speculated that they will be expanded further. Read more about Primus tour dates here

Mayweather/Pacquiao Fight to be in Cowboys Stadium?

Not a lot of details for the upcoming boxing battle between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr have been set, but who wouldn’t want to see the biggest boxing event of the year in Dallas Cowboys Stadium with that huge screen putting you right in the middle of the action? Most people think this fight will be scheduled for the 6th or the 14th of November, and whenever the date is officially announced there is going to be a rush of demand on Mayweather vs Pacquiao tickets. Come Fly Away to Broadway

The sounds of Sinatra are brought back to life on Broadway with Twyla Tharp’s ‘Come Fly Away’ playing at the Marquis Theatre. The show originally previewed in Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre to very good reviews and has been a hot ticket on Broadway since opening in late March. 2011 Kentucky Derby

The Kentucky Derby. The Run for the Roses. The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports. This spectacular horse-racing event is called by many names, but in the early days it was not the prestigious event that it is today. Meriwether Lewis Clark, Jr., grandson of the famous Clark in Lewis and Clark, is known as the founder of the Derby. In 1872, inspired by visits to famous horse tracks in England and Paris, Meriwether returned to Louisville and organized the Louisville Jockey Club to raise money to construct a quality horse racing venue. Meriwether’s relatives, John and Henry Churchill, provided the land for the venture; hence the name Churchill Downs. The first Derby was held on May 17, 1875 and was set at 1 ½ miles. Jockey Oliver Lewis won with Aristides in front of a crowd of 10,000 fans. However, the track was fraught with financial problems and was not profitable until 1903, four years after Meriwether’s suicide and a year after Col. Matt Winn took the track over. Winn is credited with saving the race from bankruptcy and transforming it into the respected event we call the Kentucky Derby.

There are several important milestones of the Derby. The youngest winner ever was Alonzo “Lonnie” Clayton, an African-American who won in 1892 at age fifteen. In 1896 the race was changed to 1 ¼ miles, its current distance. The race track was incorporated as Churchill Downs in 1937. The fastest run was in 1973 by Secretariat with a time of 1:59:40, and that record still stands today.

The traditional beverage of the Derby is the mint julep - a concoction of bourbon, mint and syrup. Also popular is a dish called burgoo – a thick meaty stew. Other Derby traditions include singing “My Old Kentucky Home” and the fashion statements made by ladies in their beautiful and sometimes outrageous headwear.

Whatever your interest, a good time is sure to be had by all at the Kentucky Derby in 2011 and you’re going to want to be there!

2010-2011 NFL Schedule!

The NFL draft is this weekend, the NFL Preseason Schedule was released at the end of last month, and tonight at 7pm EST the full 2010-2011 NFL Schedule will be released. Roger Waters brings back ‘The Wall’

Pink Floyd bassist and co-vocalist Roger Waters hasn’t performed ‘The Wall’ since 1990 but he is going to bring it back with all the theatrical experience and production value from the band’s performances in the 80’s at venues across North America this fall. Starting in Toronto on September 15th the live reproduction will hit 33 locations through December 13th and a tour through Europe is rumoured to be scheduled for early 2011. NHL All Star Game in Raleigh, NC?

With a press conference to announce the 2011 NHL All Star game’s host venue being held in Raleigh on Thursday, even ESPN is reporting that the RBC Center will be announced as the 2011 hosting venue. The RBC Center, once known as the ESA before the Royal Bank of Canada bought the naming rights, has played host to the Carolina Hurricanes and NC State Wolfpack as well as NCAA Tournament games, big time concerts, and lots of other entertainment events over the years.
