Stanley Cup Playoffs Begin May 1st, Big News for 2014
A week from Saturday will mark the final day of the lockout-shortened 2013 NHL regular season. Teams are still vying for the right to compete for the Stanley Cup, with just over a handful of games remaining on the schedule. Only Pittsburgh, Montreal, Chicago, and Anaheim have clinched spots in the 2013 NHL Playoffs. With only 48 games on the regular season schedule in 2013, players will be much fresher for the playoffs, having played nearly half the amount of games of a normal season.
In addition to the 2013 playoffs, hockey fans have even more to look forward to in 2014. The success of the Winter Classic has shown the league that fans want more. Sources say that the National Hockey League is planning six outdoor games for next season. The series will start in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the Big House and will make its way to LA, New York, Chicago, and Vancouver.
